Possible Future Mac User: Some Questions

Hi all,

If you read my laptop topics that I posted a couple of months ago, you'd know that I got a samsung x120 notebook, running win7. I am absolutely fine with it and it seems to handle all the things I need it to do.

However, I am hearing a lot of people saying that the Mac is better. I did consider getting a Mac, but decided against it because of various compatibility reasons. But thinking about it, I feel I was a little too quick to dismiss the Mac. So I will be sticking with the samsung, but in a few years when that bites the dust, I think i'll seriously consider a Mac. So I have some questions below:

1. If I got a Mac, it would either be a MacBook or a MacBook Pro. I would be getting the version with the smallest display (13 inch I believe) as I don't need the display. This may be too vague, but which do you think I should go for, the MacBook or the MacBook Pro?

2. If I got a Mac, there is a 99 % chance that I would still need to access a copy of Windows for one reason or another. With either the MacBook or the MacBook Pro, would it be better to use bootcamp to dual boot Windows or run Windows in something like VMWare Fusion? If I ran Windows as a VM, would it eat up a lot of resources?

3. This is the less important of my 3 questions and is a rather odd one. It is easy to listen to the Windows sound schemes, but is it possible to listen to the Mac OSX sounds online? Not essential, but i'm just interested.

That's all for now,

Robert

For running windows, i'd really suggest fusion, i have windows xp pro running in a vm on my mac right now when i need it, and it hardly effects the machine if at all. As for between macBook or macBook pro, the main difference is processor power from what i can tell.

I haven't heard much about running windows on the same machine, but I have heard that bootcamp works quite well so you can have a choice of using mac or windows. You can run windows as a virtual machine, but you have to have already bought a copy of windows which you will have done from your previous computers anyway, so you should be able to use vmwear just fine. You can also listen to mac sounds online, although I can't remember where you might find them right now.
Hope this helps,
Harmony.

Since XP is soon to go out of support and it is already hard to find genuine copies of it, i'd probably go with Windows 7. Has anyone had experience with using Win7 on the MacBook or MacBook Pro?

Thanks,

Robert

Mike, its not just processing power, its graphics, and RAM. And bigger display options.
